On June 23, 2011, Hillary Clinton announced that the U.S. government will be providing assisstance to the Philippines to strengthen their military, including maritime defense. There have been teritorial disputes with China over the Spratly Islands located in the West Philippine Sea, previously called the South China Sea. The Philippine's Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario said that while the Philippines only want to maintain peace and allow the area to develop economically, Chinese vessels have made nine intrusions, each one becoming more aggressive. He also said that the Philippines responded by filing diplomatic protests.
Currently China is fueding with Japan over a different set of islands close to Taiwan called Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu, meaning "fishing platform", in Chinese. The islands contain rich fishing grounds, and are thought to have oil deposits. The U.S. has not taken a side with either country, but has stated that in case of military conflict between the two, they would intervene on Japan's behalf. Article Five of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security Between the Japan and the United States states that when there are armed attacks in Japan we have to take action.

The picture that says Sailor Moon has the main characters of the anime, manga, stage musicals, and live-action series Sailor Moon. In order from left to right, their names are Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars (black hair), Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Moon, Sailor Mini Moon, Sailor Neptune, Sailor Pluto, Sailor Saturn, and Sailor Uranus (the one on the ground). When they're not transformed into Sailor Scouts, they go by their regular names. The Disney picture is of Pluto, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck. Much like Disney movies are widely known and celebrated in America, anime films are very common in Japanese culture.

Before the attack, the U.S. had only been involved in the war by supplying England and other antifascist European countries with weapons and ammunition.
President Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, which had the effect of relocating all people of Japanesse ancestry outside of the Pacific military zone. He issued this to prevent the Japanese from spying or using spies to obtain secret information. He also did it to protect the people of Japanese descent from being harmed by Americans who were anti-Japanese.
